Scrapbooking with the Scraptastic January kit-Part 4

The February Scraptastic kit landed on my doorstep a few days ago, and I have been playing with it ever since. And since I've been very productive, I think I'll be posting all the layouts I made with the January kit this week and call it done for January. I totally killed that kit, and really have nothing left of it.
So here are a few more layouts I made using this great kit- Tongue Tied and it's add on.
First up is probably my favorite layout of the month-

And it's because of that photo. My husband took it, and it's gotta be one of the cutest things I've ever seen!
OK, back to scrapbooking:) This is a simple design, and works great with kits, because the hardest part is choosing the patterned papers. Since usually everything in a kit coordinates so nicely together, that part is already done!

I used the wooden frame (a kit exclusive) as a place for my title. Added a few embellishments and bows, some ink splatters and that's it! The fabric bow is Maggie Holmes, and the resin one is Amy Tan Cut&Paste. The camera flair is one of the kit exclusives, and thankfully the flair can also be bought separately which is awesome. I love flair. The vellum embellishments are from the Printshop collection, by Studio Calico.

Sometimes kits have certain products that might be challenging to use. I love photo overlays, and Crate paper have come out with them for many of their collections lately. So I do have a couple of packages in my stash, no need for hoarding:) But I find that I mostly use them as layers behind my photos and not on them. Somehow many times the photos look better as is, and the lovely patterns on the overlays get lost on the photo (unless it's a really white or light photo with not a lot going on).
Here's the next layout-

The other thing was that I didn't really find a good match to that background patterned paper from the other papers in the kit. So I just used overlays.

I added some little details with stamps (and gold ink, a new favorite)-

I'm naturally attracted to the patterned papers, so usually I'll do a few layouts using patterned papers as background before I move on to using the cardstock. But eventually I do, because using cardstock has it's advantages. Usually I can play more with it, and I rarely use it just as it is.
Here's what I mean-

I used here gold acrylic paint and a circle foam applicator to create the background. The letter stickers are form my stash (Crate paper), as well as those cute metal clips from 2Peas in a Bucket.

Now that I look at that close-up those splatters look a bit bloody... I assure you no one was injured or harmend in the making of this page.
I'll post the last 4 layouts I made with the January kit in the next days, along with another post sharing a layout I made using my February Focus-distress products.
Thanks for visiting!
