A Double Pager- With A Twist

I really like double page layouts, but I didn't do a lot of them because I always felt I needed the same background paper for both pages. I don't have a lot (hardly any) doubles of patterned papers, which is what I usually start with. But then I took this online class at 2 Peas in a Bucket, Glitter Girl's Scrapbook Survival Guide, and there it was- a double page layout with two different backgrounds. Now why didn't I think of that?? Anyway, I created this double pager, I really liked the result, and didn't mind at all that the backgrounds were different.

So I guess that was somewhere in the back of my mind when I created this double pager, I guess I would call them complimenting pages-

 And the pages separately-

The page design is very much inspired by a page from another online workshop called Pop and Colours (you can find more details here, and yes, I love taking online classes:)). It just started recently, but till now the content is really inspiring, with lots of mixed media, but done in a way that I really like, with pretty feminine colors, messy but still modern and stylish.

This happened by accident. I wanted to create a background with mists and a stencil (this feathers stencil from The Crafter's Workshop- lovely!). I love using mists, so I tried making my own mists using Distress Reinkers and water. Here I used Worn Lipstick (love this shade of pink!), Mustard Seed and Dried Marigold. I misted through the stencil, as usual, trying to get the colors nicely mixed. Then I thought I'd just use another 12*12 white cardstock to absorb all the mist from the stencil. I didn't move anything, just laid the paper on top of the stencil (that was on top of another white cardstock), and pressed lightly with my hands. I loved the result, and then I thought I'd use both backgrounds for a double pager.
Here's a close up at parts of the backgrounds. This is the one I started with, when misted you get the negative spaces of the stencil-

And the one I used to soak up the remaining mist from the stencil itself-

I'm also inspired by Wilna Furstenberg and her style of embellishing, I have a crush on my hot glue gun, it does such a great job adhering embellishment while giving them a subtle dimensional look.
So I added to the basic design which was just the background papers and some layered strips of patterned paper on the sides of the double page, using pretty much every little embellishment that caught my eye in the right color. A mix of Crate Paper, Studio Calico, American crafts, Dear Lizzy...
Here's a couple of close ups on the embellishments clusters-

I used die cuts as titles, I thought the page was embellished enough, and did not want to add more letters to it. There's no journaling, in case you noticed, and the reason is that I used a 6*12 divided page protector to write.

Today's post is just full of inspiration I got from various other scrapbookers. Ali Edwards is another scrapbooker I follow, and what I especially love about her work, are the stories she tells about her life and family. Last week she posted a few pages she made with "10 Things Right Now". I really like that concept, and wrote down some things about us and about my husband right now. I also made a page for my daughter that I will share soon.
The pictures I used are just two favorites (unlike the million photos I have of my daughter, we rarely make photos of ourselves, especially together) from a two day trip we made back in August to Tel Aviv, the city that never stops:)
Here's a picture just to show how that looks, I used cards from the Project Life Polka dot Party mini kit.

Hope you're inspired to try this with a double page spread.
Thanks for visiting!
